Do you know what sucks? Being stuck in L.A. without air conditioning. We do have a "swamp cooler" type thing....it pretty much blows in hot air into the apartment. We also have several deafening fans...they are so loud that we have missed knocks on the door and have to shout to the person right next to us in order to hear them. I don't know how I've survived the summer. My roommate, quite accurately I think, hypothesized that the reason many third world countries are so behind in technological advances it because it's so hot...one doesn't feel like being productive when it's so freaking hot! (NOT to say that these wonderful people are not productive...in fact, I bet they are more productive than me in one day than I am in a week).
Today, I decided I wasn't going to take it. In fact, I got so desperate that I drove around just because I knew my car had air conditioning. Then I decided to catch a movie (why would I do that even though at the onset of that decision I knew I'd be going my myself and look like a big loser? Yes, you got it: air conditioning). Sort of a big mistake because it was labor day and I went to the movie theater that's attached to the mall...so LOTS of shoppers. I spent at least 15 minutes driving around the lot looking for parking. However, I must say that I've never been more delighted to look for parking...it was cool in my car! I parked in time to make it over to the theater 15 minutes before the movie of choice started, plenty of time. Unfortunately, everyone and their dog wished to avoid the oppressive heat by sitting inside an air conditioned theater. I was next in line and the movie I wanted to see sold out. I had a back-up option prepared. I also called up a friend last minute and was lucky enough to have her join me. It was BLISS. I forgot that it was 90+ outside.
Then, I went to FHE. One thing I must ask: Why have a Chili cookoff....during the summer... when it's FREAKING HOT?!?!?! Wait a couple of months! I can't complain though. Free food is good food. Tomorrow, the temple will be reopening. While I am genuinely excited that it is reopening and was planning to make Tuesday my regular temple day anyway, I think I might save more ancestors than originally planned just because I know the temple is air conditioned. Is that bad?
