Not so holy....
I make it a practice to listen to classical music or hymns on the sabbath day or on my way to the temple. In general, I feel like it is more calming, less distracting, and helps me focus more. Today was no different after getting into my car after a temple session. It is vocal music, I think even a capella, and it sounds like it could have even been sung in a cathedral. It was gorgeous. Then, the song ends and this little man comes on to give his two cents about the composer and music. All of the sudden, he launches into this dissertation about erotic madrigals! Apparently, I had been listening to an erotic madrigal. Furthermore, when someone says something "dies" in that day (whenever this song was written) it means something entirely different! (because, of course it's inappropriate to be talking about such things as they are). In my view, sometimes ignorance is bliss. I felt fine listening to whatever song in whatever language I was listening to. However, maybe it still defies the entertainment guideline for Mormons of: "would Christ enjoy watching/listening to this?" since Jesus understands every language and would know that the song was, in fact, an erotic madrigal. After I lifted my jaw off the ground that this sweet old man on a classical music station was talking about orgasms, I just started laughing at the irony of the fact that I felt this was uplifting and beautiful music to listen to after serving in the temple.
