- One case is going to cause me to pull my hair out. This girl is now 19 and has the credits of a high school freshman. I show up to her house to transport her places, and she'll leave me waiting in the living room for like 45 minutes! She's working on getting a job and finishing her GED, and at least now she's more focused.
- I went on a visit for another social worker, and these kids were so cute! They were showing off their Halloween costumes, and the little 4 year old was either jumping on the bed the whole time, doing flips or standing on his head. Literally.
- I got a new family last week, and I visited two of the kids today. The boys are so cute! The 2 year old kept saying "Funny!" and giggling the whole time. Which was "funny." hahaha. And the older one was so polite and sweet. I totally had an art therapy moment though. He was drawing this nice little picture of a flower. I started asking him about his mom ("when did you see her last," "do you get to visit with her" etc. - questions you're supposed to ask), and then he started drawing storm clouds with lightning bolts.... but there was a giant sun in the midst of all of that. I totally wanted to jump in and get all therapisty, but realized I am a case managing social worker, not a therapist. *sigh*

A month's update at DCFS

I wish I could post pictures because I know they go a lot further than words as far as blogs go, but.... well, my clients' faces are confidential material. Here's some general updates:
