Art, art, art

2012 has been a good art year for me.  I'm finally fulfilling a lifelong dream of taking an oil painting class, which has inspired me doing artwork in other mediums as well.  It makes me feel so accomplished!  Here are some of the things I've been able to create lately:

1st Project - Mandala, first layer of paint in neutral/grayscale

1st Project - Mandala, with added color
Okay, can't tell much different, but it now has a glaze
So, I know this isn't that impressive.  It's a glorified color wheel.  But, it was a lot harder than it looks!  And it was a good learning experience.  I will save showing you my next project until it is finished - and in the future I will show the evolution of the painting from start to finish.  In the mean time, here are some other recent things I did just for fun.

Random Native American man.  Found the picture on Pinterest!

My sister requested paintings of animals for her birthday.  I did these giraffes because she is currently volunteering at the Oakland zoo doing observation of the giraffes and one of them just had a baby which she loves.  Watercolor.

My sister also likes foxes.  I used a metallic paint on this so it was kinda fun.  I hated the background though. Acrylics.

Adele's album cover.  She's more attractive in her cover picture, but oh well!  Charcoal.
I still need to make more time for my artwork... I used to be darn good in high school and with college and grad school, I let it slip a little bit, so here's to hoping I can make more time for art to develop the talent rather than lose it!
